Engineering Calculators for CNC Machining

Explore practical engineering calculators for threaded holes, CNC machining time, milling surface finish, countersink dimensions, and material removal rates. Check critical manufacturing parameters before finalizing your drawings or discussing production requirements.

Choose an Engineering Calculator

Select a calculator based on the feature or machining operation you need to evaluate. Each tool focuses on a specific engineering question and identifies the inputs required for its calculations. Additional tools will be added as they become available.

Available

How to Use These Engineering Calculators

Use the appropriate calculation to check a manufacturing feature, evaluate process parameters, or prepare more complete information for a CNC machining quote.

1

Select Your Calculation

Choose the tool matching your engineering task, such as a threaded hole, machining cycle, milled surface, or screw recess.

2

Enter Required Parameters

Provide the dimensions, thread specifications, cutting data, or tool geometry requested by the selected calculator.

3

Review the Engineering Results

Check the calculated values, units, assumptions, and limitations before applying the results to drawings or production planning.

Engineering Assumptions and Limitations

Calculators can support early design checks and manufacturing decisions, but the result depends on the chosen inputs and the assumptions of each calculation.

Verify Dimensions and Specifications

Confirm thread class, fastener geometry, material requirements, dimensional tolerances, and relevant drawing specifications. A calculated nominal value does not replace a tolerance analysis or inspection requirement.

Validate Actual Machining Conditions

Tool geometry, material behavior, machine rigidity, workholding, tool wear, and process settings can affect real machining results. Validate critical parameters against the selected tooling and manufacturing process.

Engineering Calculators: Common Questions

Answers to common questions about calculator results, units, manufacturing assumptions, and engineering use.

Are these engineering calculators free to use?

Yes. Available EPOC CRAFTER engineering calculators can be used online without creating an account. Additional calculators will be added as they are completed.

Can I use calculator results on a production drawing?

Use calculated values as engineering references. Verify critical dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, and applicable standards before releasing a production drawing.

Do these calculators support metric and imperial units?

Supported units depend on the selected calculator. The tap drill tool covers metric, UNC, and UNF thread systems. Review the units and input requirements displayed within each tool.

Is theoretical scallop height the same as Ra roughness?

No. Scallop height describes theoretical toolpath geometry. Measured Ra roughness also depends on cutting conditions, material, vibration, tool condition, and the measurement method.

Can machining time estimates determine the final part cost?

No. Machining time is one cost input. Final part pricing may also include material, setup, tooling, inspection, surface finishing, quantity, and production requirements.

What information should I provide for a CNC machining quote?

Provide 3D CAD files, engineering drawings, material specifications, quantities, required tolerances, surface finishes, and inspection needs. Include critical threaded or mating features.
