DFM & RFQ Readiness Checker for Custom Manufacturing Parts

Review CAD files, engineering drawings, materials, tolerances, process-specific manufacturing risks, inspection requirements, and delivery details before requesting a manufacturing quote. Identify missing information and generate a structured RFQ readiness summary.

DFM & RFQ Readiness Review

Check whether your custom manufacturing RFQ is defined well enough for a supplier’s engineering review. This checklist does not inspect CAD geometry or approve manufacturability.

Your entries stay in this page until you leave or reset. Enter realistic project requirements, then mark the manual checks as Confirmed, Needs Review, Missing or Not Applicable where allowed.

Open Questions for the Supplier

Record unresolved specifications, supplier feasibility questions and approved alternatives. These notes appear in your printable checklist.

Important: A completed readiness checklist means the information has been reviewed for submission. It does not replace geometric DFM analysis, drawing verification, supplier capability approval, or a formal manufacturing quotation.

Design for Manufacturability Checklist

A design for manufacturability checklist should address both the technical constraints of the selected process and the documents a supplier needs to estimate cost, feasibility, lead time and inspection effort. Mark each issue only after it is supported by the design package or a documented engineering decision.

For CNC machining, consider access to deep features, inside corners, slender walls and complex setups. For sheet metal, check bend-to-hole spacing and insert requirements. For injection molding, check draft, uniform walls and undercuts. For additive manufacturing, check wall thickness, orientation and supports. For vacuum casting, check the master pattern, parting strategy and resin requirements.

Confirm process-specific DFM limits using the actual part geometry, approved material grade, supplier capabilities, applicable engineering standards, and the latest released drawing.

DFM & RFQ Readiness Checker FAQ

What should be included in a manufacturing RFQ?

Provide part identifiers and current revisions, CAD geometry, technical drawings when special requirements apply, material and grade, quantity, tolerances, finish, inspection documentation, delivery location and schedule. Process-specific considerations may require a manual engineering review.

Does this checker automatically analyze a CAD file?

No. It is a structured self-assessment tool. It does not read geometry, validate dimensional tolerances or decide whether your part can be manufactured. A supplier should confirm the critical features and feasibility.

Why should CAD and 2D drawings both be included?

CAD defines 3D geometry, while drawings can communicate critical dimensions, GD&T, threads, surface finish, inspection and other technical notes that a model may not capture completely.

Does a completed checklist guarantee the quoted price?

No. Supplier-specific process capacity, material sourcing, tooling, quality requirements and schedule still affect an actual quote. Use the checklist to reduce avoidable clarification cycles.

Before requesting a quote, confirm that the CAD revision, drawing requirements, quantities, material specification, inspection expectations, and delivery details agree.
